everything as promised

piece of 1/2" plastic pipe ($1.10 at Home Depot) needed to bang in the holding clip. Otherwise easy to install as advertised, and chair is good as new.

Completely Satisfied

Terrific. New Parts matched exactly with what I removed from chair. Easy install.
FYI – I pressed retaining clip into place with a 3/4” socket & a couple easy taps with a rubber mallet. Great product… one I heartily endorse.

Works great, has everything you need (almost)

This is a great replacement kit, fixed my chair right up. A few things to note: If you don't have a mounting tool, get like a 7/8" or 1" interior diameter 12" pipe piece at like ace hardware, you can use that to seat the holding bracket. There is a little plastic seating bit that needs to be seated right when you remove the old cylinder. You know you have it in the right direction when the new cylinder's widest tube sits about 1" below the chair tube housing.

Quick delivery, relatively easy to install

The part came sooner than I thought and was in fine shape. Instructions were minimal, but a quick youtube search showed exactly how to install the new one. I wish they had said we needed a one-inch pipe, as that would have made the installation 5 minutes instead of 15. But it is all set and working great.
Thank you!

Pretty Quick, Pretty Cheap and It Works
Posted by Tom Newton on 3rd Dec 2019
I snagged five or six Steelcase chairs at work when new ones were ordered. I brought them home one or two at a time. I cleaned them up, my wife reupholstered them, and they became our dining room chairs. That was 25 years ago and they worked fine until a year or two ago when the gas cylinders that allow the chair seats to go up and down began to conk out. You'd sit down in one of the chairs and it would be fine, comfortable as ever; other times, without warning, yikes!, the seat would descend to it's lowest point. I Googled office chair parts, found chairpartsonline, found the part I needed, and ordered it on line. I was really surprised that it wasn't much more expensive. Maybe that's why I ordered it so quickly...I was afraid the price would go up. The cylinder arrived in our mailbox three days later and I installed it that evening. I've had some experience messing with the chairs over the years, but anyone can handle the installation. (I only had trouble with the retaining clip, but I think that's just my problem with retaining clips. Ping! Where'd that thing go this time??!! ) It's a good product at a good price and I would, and have, ordered more.

Generally easy to install. Retaining ring did offer a bit of a challenge. Delivery was fast. Chair works great now.

Works as it should

The cylinder works as it is supposed to, my only complaint is that the clip that holds the cylinder in the chair was bent and took me about 20 minutes to get it off so I could install in the chair. Fortunately I had my old clip to install with the new cylinder.

Fits and working great
Posted by Angus on 30th Mar 2019
It fit correctly and has been working well for the last 5 months. The only tricky part of installation is keeping the cylinder centered as you tap in the star washer with a pipe or tube. Suggest using a washer or fender washer for that (although I did not have one handy).
After installation, the piston did not extend as quickly as the old one, but after a few days/uses the stiffness worked out and it extended readily.
